SKILLSUSA/MCEF State Championship
This blog post was written by intern architect Kwayera Franklin.
For the past two years CDFL has partnered with the Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF) to volunteer our services for the SkillsUSA State Championship. According to their website, the event “is in keeping with MCEF’s mission of working with schools to recruit and train a quality construction workforce and provide leadership in the industry for educating and promoting careers in construction, industrial maintenance, energy, and manufacturing. MCEF provides NCCER accreditation of 5,000 high school students annually and administers a DOL-registered apprenticeship program for adults.”
The SkillsUSA program is a partnership between students, teachers, and industry that provides skill-based learning opportunities to students in an effort to ensure that America has a well-trained workforce. CDFL is honored to have a hand in the development of future generations of construction industry professionals. Together with my fellow CDFL team member Jackie Smithers, we designed two small buildings for both the Team-Build and Carpentry Competitions. We worked closely with MCEF leadership to develop construction plans and materials schedules to ensure that the buildings were constructable and cost effective.
