What We’re Reading on the Web

As usual, we’ve read the Internet cover-to-cover* and rounded up some of the most interesting reads out there for your perusal. Enjoy!

Sometimes it seems like we could do an entire set of links from the FastCo websites but that would negate the whole “highlights from the web” aspect of this feature. We managed to narrow it down to two must-reads.

This article on tiny wooden houses becoming the future of dorms and this piece on designing buildings that imitate Earth’s creatures are two of their best this week.

Technically, this appeared on the web last week but it’s too incredible not to share.

Earlier this week we posted about several projects here in the City of Jackson that we are involved with. Along those lines, we found a couple of interesting reads on the nature of urban design and development.

Arch Daily’s feature on Columbia University’s special lecture by Vishaan Chakrabarti, author of A Country of Cities: A Manifesto for an Urban America, partner at SHoP Architects, and Director of the Center for Urban Real Estate at Columbia, focuses on the benefits of a more city-centered America.

This Architizer piece takes a look at designing with cities and not for them, as well as the importance of considering alternate capabilities of preexisting urban structures and materials.
