Recently, Principal Gene Crager hit the road for site visits to Eglin Air Force Base and Fort Benning, Georgia. Below are project updates from his travels.

SOF GSB Facility and SOF GSTB Facility, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida

Site construction and underslab utility early start design packages are well on their way at the SOF GSB Facility and SOF GSTB Facility at Eglin Air Force Base.

The foundations and slab-on-grade are complete at the SOF GSB Facility and most of the structural steel superstructure is in place while work has begun on the elevated slabs’ metal deck. Concrete stair enclosures have been poured and the concrete vaults are in various stages of reinforcing, forming, and pouring.

At the SOF GSTB Facility, all of the foundations and slab-on-grade concrete is in place and approximately 50% of the structural steel superstructure has been erected. The foundations for the OESB building for both facilities are next up on the construction schedule.

The purpose of our August 7th site visit was to attend the weekly construction meeting with the B.L. Harbert Construction Team and to review final exterior color selections with the Corp of Engineer’s on-site project team. We are 21 weeks into the construction activities and the Design/Build Team is focused on submitting, reviewing, and approving the majority of the material and system submittals to prepare for the upcoming start of the Architectural/MEP building construction activities.

Central Issue Facility, Fort Benning, Georgia

The Central Issue Facility at Fort Benning Georgia is in the final stages of construction with an anticipated October completion. During our August 6th site visit, interior finishes were in progress along with preparation for the installation of the millwork. Final electrical inspections with the COE were also in progress, awaiting approval for the switch over to permanent electrical service. Grading and sub-grade compaction test were being performed by the testing agency with concrete sidewalk pours scheduled for the following day. Additionally, the warehouse area floors are being cleaned for upcoming sealer application while the PV Array has been installed, and is awaiting permanent electrical service for testing and final system connection.
