Project Update: Two Museums Project

As we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Freedom Summer, we are pleased to share an update on progress at the Two Mississippi Museums site. This blog entry was written by architect Mike Reese, one of the CDFL team members working on the project.

Work is progressing nicely on the Mississippi Museum of Natural History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, thanks to the efforts of Thrash Commercial Contractors, ECD (Eley, CDFL, Dale) and the Bureau of Building. The contractor has completed the 1600-total augercast piles for the three building components – the History Museum, Civil Rights Museum, and the public parking garage.

Sequencing of the project from north to south has the History Museum in the lead with the elevated B1 level concrete floor in place and forming of B2 level in progress. The Civil Rights Museum structure has been completed up to the tops of columns for the cast-in-place B3.5 Parking Level. The Public Garage has soldier piles in place at the South End adjacent to Archives and History and the Soil Nail Wall at the West side.
