Meet The Team: David Luter

Each week we’ll introduce a member of the CDFL team, or as we like to think of ourselves, the “us” in the Power of Plus. This week we are proud to introduce engineer David Luter.

How long have you worked at CDFL?

I graduated from Mississippi State University on December 15, 2012 and started at CDFL 4 days later, so I’ve been here just over a year.

What do you do at CDFL?

I assist in various phases of the mechanical design process such as surveying, designing, drafting, and inspecting. It’s interesting and exciting because I get to see all phases of a job from conception to completion. Since arriving at CDFL my focus has mainly been plumbing, but recently I’ve started seeing more HVAC work.

What unique attributes do you bring to the CDFL team?

As the youngest member of the team, I feel like I bring a fresh perspective into the office. Some may call it naivety (I’m sure there’s more truth to that than I’ll admit), but I like to think there’s something more to it. Our industry is ever-changing and while I still have more to learn than I know, I think it helps having a youthful perspective around the office.

What is the best thing about working at CDFL?

From a business perspective, the design process is definitely streamlined by having architects and engineers under one roof. It’s exponentially easier to resolve issues when you know someone well and can meet with them face-to-face.

From a personal perspective, the people I get to work with every day are special. Everyone brings something unique to the table and we all genuinely care for each other. Both of these things make for an environment that’s conducive to collaboration and enjoyable to work in.

What do you spend the most time doing outside of work?

I enjoy almost anything that has to do with competition. Watching sports, playing sports, playing board games, etc. I also do a good bit of woodworking and furniture making. I love working with my hands and seem to always have some sort of project going.

What is your favorite lunch spot in the neighborhood?

I love working in the Fondren area. I would argue that you can’t find a square mile in Mississippi with as much character and good food as Fondren. Lenny’s is my most frequented lunch spot – you can’t beat their Philly cheese steak and the service is great. Rooster’s fried chicken and Que Sera’s french dip are two of my neighborhood favorites.
