This Monday, January 13, the first chairs were removed from Jackson’s Thalia Mara Hall as work finally began on a much-needed facelift for the city’s beloved municipal auditorium.

CDFL is proud to be partnering with Friends of Thalia Mara Hall, the City of Jackson, and the State of Mississippi in giving the home of the USA International Ballet Competition (IBC), the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and countless other shows and performances the TLC she deserves. The project is a 3-stage endeavor with the first already underway. Prior the start of the IBC this June, Thalia Mara will benefit from:

Renovation of lobbies and other gathering places
Renovation of the lower lobby for ticket, merchandise, and concession sales
Restroom upgrades on the lower level
Extensive restroom renovations on mezzanine level to conform with ADA regulations
Interior finish updates for house
Replacement of existing seating
In-house concourse addition for life safety egress capability
Upgraded lighting for energy savings
New mechanical units and equipment
New communications infrastructure and service
Upgraded dimming system

Currently, the work completed includes code compliant exterior railings and new primary stage curtains.

“It’s an incredibly exciting project to be a part of,” said architect Colby Dearman. “Seeing public and private community stakeholders come together to invest in an incredibly important part of our city’s cultural fabric is inspiring and we are truly honored to be a part of this project.”

Monday’s press conference at the Hall was covered by multiple city news outlets. For their coverage, and a sneak peek at those new seats (!), see the links below.
