Elise Jones Joins CDFL

1.      What drew you to this profession?
The variety of architecture I experienced when traveling drew me to the profession. I was interested in learning the roots of architecture and how culture affects the built environment.

2.      What’s your happy place outside of work?

The movie theater is my happy place outside of work. I love when they rescreen older movies.

3.      If you weren’t in this role/industry, what’s your alternate dream job?

My alternate dream job would be ER medicine. Most of my family works in the medical field, and I've always had an interest in science.

4.      What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

It's okay to fail as long as you get up and try again. It can be hard to accept when you are not a natural at things, but persistence is key.

5.      What’s the most interesting place you’ve traveled to?

The most interesting place I've traveled to is Belize. I went cave waterfall jumping and stayed in a rainforest tree house. It was a great time minus the scorpions.

6.      Where should we go for lunch if you get to pick?

Wing mouth is definitely a top pick for me.

7.      If you have a week off starting tomorrow, where are you going?

If I had a week off, I would immediately hop on a plane to Iceland. It's on my bucket list to visit the black rock beaches and volcanoes. A good bit of the movie The Secret Life of Walter Smitty was filmed there, and it just looks beautiful.

8.      What’s a TV show you could rewatch forever?

The Good Place is a great rewatch for me. It's very much a comfort show.

9.      What's something people are surprised to learn about you?

I regularly car camp in my free time. Many people have assumed I'm a homebody because of the busy schedule of architecture school.

10.  What are you looking forward to most in your new role?

I'm looking forward to learning how architecture plays a part in the real world. As fun as the theoretical projects were in school, it will be great to see the conceptual become reality.
