The University of Mississippi Residential Colleges

The Residential Colleges at the University of Mississippi provide a unique academic experience for undergraduates as a place to live and learn. For CDFL, the challenge was to create a holistic environment that enhanced the academic experience while fostering community among faculty and residents. The design incorporated classrooms, study areas, social spaces and a theater, as well as a laundry, dining areas and housing for 797 students and faculty.

In keeping with University tradition, the Colleges were designed in an interpretative Greek revival style. CDFL engineers worked with the design team in using a variety of materials to maximize support for walls and roofing. Additionally, the team developed mechanical systems that allowed for variable air control in housing and public areas.
