Carrier Hall Renovation - The University of Mississippi

Carrier Hall was constructed in 1960 as the center of engineering education at the University. It originally housed the department’s faculty and all teaching spaces, including laboratories. As the College expanded over the next 50 years, the building required renovation to support evolving approaches to technical education.

CDFL was commissioned to plan, renovate, and expand Carrier Hall to meet the College’s modern educational goals. Interdisciplinary instruction in technology required new spaces, which CDFL addressed through a significant addition for departmental support and general building services. The original 1960 structure was completely renovated, with all building systems replaced and a new student-centered learning environment established. Smaller classrooms were combined to create larger lab spaces for the engineering department.

The result is a flexible, contemporary academic center that now houses the civil engineering, geology, and geological engineering programs. Recognized for its historical significance, the transformation was approved by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
