Bishop Hall Renovation - The University of Mississippi
Bishop Hall, constructed in 1968 as the Humanities Department, is a modernist interpretation of the university’s more traditional architectural style. Recent changes in university planning have prompted a shift back toward the historic “Ole Miss” aesthetic. The three-story building is approximately 45,000 SF and currently houses the History Department, the Student Media Center, and various office spaces.
This $2.6M project included exterior enhancements such as a new ornamental metal railing system and the replacement of the flat roof with one that more closely aligns with the surrounding buildings. CDFL also designed a new entrance between Bishop Hall and Bondurant Hall, creating a shared plaza that improves accessibility and strengthens the architectural connection between the two buildings.
Inside, the first floor was fully renovated and transformed into new technology and teaching centers. The University aimed to increase its number of teaching centers from 35 to 75. To achieve this, smaller spaces were combined and walls between classrooms were removed to create larger, more flexible instructional areas.
