The University of Mississippi - Whitten Golf House

The Whitten Golf House served as the original home for the Ole Miss men’s and women’s golf teams and played an important role in the daily operations of the program for many years. Completed in 2002 after design began in 2000, the 4,981 SF, two-story facility reflected the University of Mississippi’s classic architectural identity with red brick veneer, limestone columns, and terra cotta colored metal roofing that blended seamlessly with the surrounding campus.

Designed to support both athletes and coaches, the Whitten Golf House included four coaches’ offices, a spacious player lounge, locker rooms and shower facilities for the men’s and women’s teams, and key support spaces such as restrooms, a club repair area, and equipment storage.

The building originally featured an indoor practice and teaching area, allowing for year-round training. When the new Herrington Golf Center was completed, this indoor space was relocated, and the former area inside Whitten was transformed into an updated player lounge that offered a comfortable environment for athletes to gather, rest, and build camaraderie beyond the course.

Overlooking the practice grounds and located adjacent to newer golf facilities, the Whitten Golf House once stood as a cornerstone of Ole Miss Golf. Though the building has since been demolished, it remains part of the program’s history, honoring tradition while marking an important chapter in the evolution of the university’s athletic facilities.
