Patterson Engineering Laboratories Master Plan and Renovation - Phase I
CDFL was selected by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University to design renovations for the Mechanical Engineering portion of historic Patterson Hall. Originally built in 1949, the facility serves as a hub for both the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering departments.
Phase 1 focused on renovating the existing machine shop to improve both function and comfort. The work included the installation of new HVAC and electrical systems, as well as refreshed finishes to create a more efficient and visually cohesive environment. These upgrades modernize a vital teaching and research space while respecting the building’s legacy.
CDFL continues to collaborate closely with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) to ensure all improvements honor the structure’s historic character while supporting the evolving needs of Mississippi State’s engineering students and faculty.
