What We’re Reading on the Web
As usual, we’ve read the Internet cover-to-cover and rounded up some of the most interesting reads out there for your perusal. Enjoy!
Not to be outdone by the Eiffel Tower, Tower Bridge in London recently got a facelift that includes a new see-through walkway. The glass floor is made of clear panels weighing in at over 1,100 pounds each, and provides visitors with a different view of the Thames, 138 feet below, as well as a peek at traffic and pedestrians.
Take a gander at the 2014 winner of the International Highrise Award, “Bosco Verticale” by Boeri Studio. This beautiful structure, the “vertical forest” in English, brought over 800 trees and 14,000 plants to Milan’s already stunning skyline.
Another super cool link courtesy of jolly ‘ol England: Artist Halley Docherty has created a really fun series in which he takes images of 18th and 19th-century paintings of London and superimposes them into Google Street View images at their precise locations. It’s a really fun look at the city’s evolution and an interesting exercise in urban development.
Architect Michael Maltzan’s latest contribution to the Los Angeles architecture scene is meaningful, perfectly designed, and incredibly important – he’s on a quest to remake housing for the homeless.
And finally, because it’s Friday and because nothing has ever been this cute, nor ever will be this cute. You’re welcome.
Happy weekend!
