This kind of innovation comes about in times of scarcity, and it speaks to the possibility of how simple ideas and materials can fulfill a variety of needs. This, to me, is reminiscent of the work of Sam Mockbee in his Alabama Rural Studio. Practical, yet aesthetic in its own right, the use of shopping palettes as a building material invokes ideas of sustainability, economy, and minimalism that teaches a lesson about the true meaning of green design.

If you’re impressed by urban landscaping or a fan of Brooklyn’s High Line, get a load of this: Rotterdam-based firm MVRDV has developed a plan for a Seoul sky garden that is beyond anything else of its kind. Amazing!
