Office Update
While the practice of building buildings keeps us plenty busy, lately we’ve had even more than the average amount of excitement around here. We’ve expanded our leadership team, been out in the community, and have even managed to snag another award. Here’s a taste of what we’ve been up to:
For over 25 years, CDFL has been a corporate sponsor of Jackson Public Schools’ Casey Elementary. From providing students with Christmas presents to holding teacher appreciation lunches, CDFL has truly enjoyed playing a small role in the lives of Casey’s students and teachers. Most recently, several CDFL employees acted as judges for the school’s science fair. “It’s one of our favorite activities to do at Casey,” said architect Chris Myers. “it gives us an opportunity to see the kinds of questions the students have, as well as the experiments and approaches they take to answer those questions. It’s a lot of fun.”
The A.H. McCoy Federal Building has received another award! The joint venture with Schwartz and Silver Architects is the recipient of a 2014 GSA Design Award. According the GSA, the awards jury specifically cited the building’s “achievement in architecture, construction, communication design, interior design and urbanism.”
Next week Jackson’s Stewpot Community Services will hold an open house for their newly renovated facility. CDFL has developed a master plan for the ministry, the first phase of which was recently completed. The updates include a new roof, completely refurbished kitchen and dining areas, new bathroom facilities, new storage areas, updates to the mechanical and electrical systems, and increased handicap accessibility. Congratulations, Stewpot! We can’t wait to continue this partnership in order to better serve our community.
We’re also in the throes of planning our project for Midtown House Blend, an exciting design opportunity right here in our own backyard! Midtown Partners is sponsoring a design competition in Jackson’s Midtown neighborhood as a fundraiser for Figment, a weekend-long participatory arts and creative culture event. We are looking forward to this great opportunity to help beautify part of our community and flex our creative muscles. Go Team CDFL!
