Meet the Team: Paul Kelsey
CDFL Architects + Engineers, P.A. is growing, and we are excited to announce that Paul Kelsey has joined our Birmingham team as an Architectural Designer!
What do you do at CDFL?
My current job title is Designer in the Architecture Department but in the future I hope to progress to Project Manager and then eventually to Project Architect.
What exciting things are you working on right now?
I’m currently working on the Alcorn State Whitney Complex Renovation and Expansion schematic design package. I’m also helping with details on the Vivarium Basement Renovation at UAB.
What have you learned so far working at CDFL?
I learned Navisworks BIM clash detection software my second week on the job. I’m also learning CDFL’s Revit and production standards, in addition to observing/learning how other Designers and Project Managers multitask on multiple projects and multiple building types.
What’s your favorite TV show?
So many to choose from but I’m still binge watching some older seasons/episodes of Parks and Rec and Curb Your Enthusiasm…mostly for the sarcasm, haha!
What do you spend the most time doing outside of work?
Right now, not very exciting stuff due to “trying to” maintain a disciplined and consistent study routine for my ARE Licensing exams. In between work and studies, I try to play a little soccer, basketball, biking, pickleball or tennis or try to do some type of exercise at the gym for fitness
What's the last movie you saw?
AIR – the Michael Jordan movie.
What’s your favorite lunch spot in the neighborhood?
I’m exploring lots of new restaurants in Birmingham but so far Purple Onion and Juicy Seafood.
If you hadn't gone to architectural design school, what would you have wanted to do?
Two things or a combination of Travel Tour guide, so I can travel the world while working and/or Pastry Chef, so I can eat more sweets, lol.
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
Anywhere tropical and a beach! But I also want to explore Italy in the future.
