Meet The Team: Katie Jo Chane
Each week we’ll introduce a member of the CDFL team, or as we like to think of ourselves, the “us” in the Power of Plus. This week we are proud to introduce interior designer Katie Jo Chane.
What do you do at CDFL?
I am one of CDFL’s interior designers and I work on a variety of our projects – ranging from corporate spaces to health facilities to churches. I look at interior design as creating an experience for the users of the space. I love it when the client gives us an opportunity to truly create. Our process begins with programming, which is a very client-intensive step. We need to understand what the client needs, how they want to market themselves, and portray their brand. The next step is space planning and, honestly, I could space plan all day! I love making a well-functioning space that answers the questions raised and the needs discovered in the programming phase. Space planning is melded together with the actual design of the space – ceiling, lighting, plumbing, interior finishes, and custom millwork. This is when we finally get to create the feel and “vibe” we identified with the client during the programming phase. The last (but not least!) phase is the furniture and equipment package. The key is in the details!
Once everything is wrapped, we try to capture the space in a photo shoot which is always an intense but fun day! What I find most amazing about this job is that I haven’t yet stopped learning. Every client is distinctive, and that makes every day different. I love that about this job.
What exciting thing are you working on right now?
I am super excited about the renovation of Thalia Mara Hall. I SO enjoy civic work and it’s an honor to create a space that our entire community will get to enjoy. It’s also a privilege to be part of a team working together to invest in Jackson – not to mention it’s one of the most exciting things we’ve done in a long time! Plus, who doesn’t love a great before and after?
What’s the last movie you saw?
The Grand Budapest Hotel. I absolutely love Wes Anderson films and see all of them. His quirky characters and plots are so refreshing. The perfectly stylized sets and flawless costume design in every one of his projects amaze me.
How long have you worked for CDFL?
I’ve been in the profession for 11 years and have worked at CDFL for seven of those years.
What is your favorite lunch spot in the neighborhood?
So tough! Roosters has my favorite for comfort food, Walkers is always divine, and Babalu has a terrific vibe.
What’s your favorite TV show?
Breaking Bad
