CARA Dog Park Update

Jackson officially welcomed the metro area’s very first dog park with an October 12th ribbon cutting. Bree’s Bark Park was designed by Principal Ann Somers and her husband Jim, a landscape architect, and is located adjacent to Jackson’s largest no-kill shelter.

The facility has been a big hit in the community thus far, already attracting 68 members (including 107 dog members) and the attention of Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s Mississippi Roads. The park will be featured in a segment on an upcoming edition of the show.

“Not only have dogs from around the area been able to enjoy the park, but the CARA dogs have the opportunity to play there as well. There are always dogs in the park and that’s what the intention was – lots and lots of playing! We also have a program called ‘Adopt-a-Leash’ that enables people who aren’t able to own their own dog to come and work with CARA dogs in need of socialization assistance. It’s a great situation that allows people to cultivate a relationship with a specific dog and helps the dogs become ready for adoption,” said Ann Somers. “It’s a wonderful program made even better by the play space at the dog park.”

Bree’s Bark Park is open from noon to dusk on weekends and 3:30 to dusk the remainder of the week.
