Mississippi College Hederman-Gunter Hall

In 2023, faculty, staff, and administrators prepared for a major influx of new students, thanks to the new Leland Speed Scholarship. Named in honor of the longest-serving board member in MC’s history, the scholarship provides full tuition for all admitted high school or undergraduate transfer students who are residents of Mississippi.

Mississippi College reached out to CDFL since they had a “need for speed” in completing a major interior renovations to a pair of residence halls, Hederman Hall and Gunter Hall, that have not seen active duty since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hederman Hall is a newly renovated, suite style residence hall for freshmen females with a co-ed lobby. Gunter Hall is a newly renovated suite style residence hall for freshmen males with a co-ed lobby. The twin dormitories are 3 levels and can accommodate up to 228 residents.

The buildings received taller ceilings, new electrical wiring, hidden exposed ductwork throughout the residence halls, and installed a fire alarm system with new sprinkler pipes. The buildings also feature brand-new LVT plank-hardwood floors, a rubber cove base around the walls, and fresh, neaural color paint. The student kitchen has been completely remodeled, and the residence director’s apartment now includes a small kitchenette.

To enhance security, a “removable core” key system was installed in both dorms, making changing locks much easier for campus maintenance workers. To make sure the buildings were up to code, staircase handrails were raised, a new air intake system was deployed, and each room received dedicated electrical wiring.

Each room includes the following: two XL twin beds that can be bunked, two desks, two chairs, two dressers, and access to a closet. The building includes access to a stove, sink, microwave, and fridge with laundry facilities.
