Walter Payton Athletic Complex Master Plan

CDFL developed the Athletics Master Plan for Jackson State University, creating a unified vision for the future of JSU Athletics in tribute to the university’s legendary alumnus, Walter Payton. The plan focuses on centralizing athletic facilities and maximizing the potential of the existing track and field complex to transform the 54-acre southeast corner of campus into a vibrant athletic hub.

The proposed master plan introduces new facilities including a baseball stadium, softball complex, marching band practice field, athletic equipment building, student health and recreation center, and Facilities Management building. It also incorporates extensive site improvements such as a new campus entryway along Terry Road, jogging and walking paths, enhanced parking, and upgraded landscaping.

As part of this master plan, CDFL designed the new JSU Baseball Stadium, with Phase I completed and featuring the playing field, dugouts, and temporary seating and press facilities—marking the first step toward realizing the university’s long-term athletic vision.
