Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence

The Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) at the University of Mississippi is an exercise in contrasts: a factory floor in an academic setting, a future-focused technology center on an historic university campus.

CDFL designed the CME to be a cutting-edge experiential teaching environment in which students can immerse themselves in the manufacturing process. To do this, the team integrated a 12,000 sf manufacturing floor into the design of the building. Additionally, our engineers designed a photovoltaic system and installed the state’s largest solar panel array to help power the CME. That solar power data is collected and is available online here.

LEED Silver-certified, the CME includes features such as natural day-lighting on the manufacturing floor, low-flow restroom fixtures, flexible power and utility infrastructure, and roof insulation that increases mechanical efficiency by 30%.
