Dr. A. H. McCoy Federal Building

The modernization of the 442,689-square-foot, 15-story McCoy Federal Building was designed and constructed under the U.S. General Services Administration’s Design Excellence Program. The renovation included improved circulation patterns, updated accessibility and sustainability features; complete new building systems; and site re-development. In addition, a new curvilinear entrance pavilion, clad in luminous glass shingles over an aluminum skin, provides a welcoming and secure entry point for the building’s twenty federal agencies.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) was utilized to control the project’s schedule and costs. This system, which identified and eliminated potential conflicts between mechanical, electrical, fire protection and architectural systems during the design phases, resulted in a minimized need for change orders and a maximized control of costs.
