COFO Pocket Park
CDFL’s landscape architecture team brought the COFO Pocket Park to life. This project is a thoughtfully designed outdoor space beside the historic COFO House on Jackson State University’s campus. This project reflects our commitment to creating environments that are both functional and deeply meaningful.
Anchored by Chain Breakers, a striking mural by Jackson native Sabrina Howard, the park celebrates the legacy of civil rights activism while providing a welcoming space for students, faculty, and visitors. Our design approach focused on simplicity, accessibility, and durability, ensuring the park remains inviting and easy to maintain for years to come.
Key features of the CDFL design include:
Urban-Style Layout
Approximately 40’ x 85’, with a nearly level grade for universal accessibility.
Flexible Event Space
Areas for performances, student gatherings, and educational programs, including options for a permanent or pop-up stage.
Comfort and Security
Shaded seating, fencing, and gated entry for safety and usability.
Community Engagement
Space for games and informal activities, blending history with everyday campus life.
COFO Pocket Park is more than a landscape - it’s a living tribute to activism and a hub for connection. Through thoughtful design, CDFL has created a space that honors the past while inspiring the future.
