Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Renovation
The infusion space now offers peace and privacy, additional exam rooms, a welcoming waiting area, and uplifting colors that are light and bright.
CDFL completed the renovation and redesign of the first floor of the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, enhancing the layout to improve functionality and comfort. Visitor circulation was improved with a new entry into the clinic from the interior elevator lobby near the connection to Sanderson Children’s Hospital. The spacious waiting area now comfortably accommodates patients and their families.
The project expanded the infusion area, added more exam rooms, and reorganized staff offices and ancillary spaces—such as the break room, conference room, and work room—into the south portion of the floor, creating a distinct administrative area separate from clinical functions.
New finishes, ceilings, and lighting were installed throughout, and soundproofing was incorporated into the clinical spaces to ensure a quiet and calming environment. Mechanical and electrical systems were carefully surveyed and updated to support the new loads and equipment.
The updates to the Batson Center now seamlessly mirror the design of the connecting Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower at UMMC.
Throughout construction, patient care continued uninterrupted, ensuring that the vital services provided by the center were maintained.
