Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems Extension

The Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems Extension (CAVS-E) is a high-tech research and education facility providing an educational bridge between the Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering and the automotive industry. The 25,000 SF facility serves as an Extension Center for the Engineering Engagement and Outreach Service (EEOS) that was conceived to generate technological data and provide best practices to grow the manufacturing industry statewide.

The state-of-the-art CAVS-E facility is located across Interstate-55 from the Nissan Plant in Canton, Mississippi. The CDFL design team chose the modernist forms, clean white metal panels, rigid modular grid, and machine-like detailing to allude to the high-tech computer systems and automotive engineering research inside. The interior spaces of the building range from traditional offices to technologically advanced conference rooms to highly specialized laboratories. Isolation slabs are provided for large-scale mock-ups and experiments. Since its completion in 2004, the facility has continued to act as an inspiring channel for award-winning research and development, most recently the 2012 Innovator Award from the Southern Growth Policies Board.
